Here is our 2019 Cycling Cruise
Our team in Sydney are all ready and waiting for you to arrive. Watch the video on our Ride Down Under page for a taster of the rides available in Sydney.
Its time to give you a sneak peek at our planned Cycling Cruise in 2019. Departing 15th October from Sydney, Australia on board Celebrity Solstice of Celebrity Cruises for a 12 night Great Barrier Reef cruise. All you need to bring is your kit and your pedals. Pre and Post Cruise rides and hotel stays are available.
Day 1 – Sydney We can arrange an early ride, maybe pop across the bridge and ride into Clarkes Hill Nature Reserve where the roads are very quiet and it is an amazing place to ride. The scenery is magnificent. But we have a few choices in Sydney so we’ll publish them soon. But we will be all back on board in good time for Sail Away. Pre and post cruise hotels and rides are available.
Day 2 – Newcastle – Apparently Australia’s second oldest city there is alot to do here. There are nature parks, you can hug a Koala, there are walks and we will try and arrange some rides. Newcastle isn’t on the GCR list at the moment.
Day 3 – At Sea – Sea days are great for getting to find your way around the ship. You can use them for R&R or make use of the excellent fitness facilities on board. There is also a Spa on board but you’ll have to book them in advance for sea days.
Day 4 – At Sea
Day 5 – Airlie Beach – Things will really be hotting up as we arrive in Airlee Beach and the Whitsundays. Airlee Beach is the main hub for accessing the Great Barrier Reef. Celebrity Cruises will have lots of shore excursions and activities for you to do. And we can help with that too.
Day 6 – Cairns* – As we arrive into the location of GCR’s latest ride location, we will be ready to explore the smooth flat roads that is a great place to ride. The rides haven’t been released yet so we are excited to find out where they are going. Cairns is a great place to overnight. The town is really quite lively at night with a great atmosphere. You might even get to see a Crocodile.
Day 7 – Cairns* – You can go for a ride or go on a tour of the Barrier Reef. There are still lots of things to do.
Day 8 – Port Douglas – TBA

An Alternative Cycling Holiday
Why Cycling Cruises?
Cycling Cruises on board Ocean going ships have many advantages over the usual cycling holiday. First we have the benefit of visiting many places during a cruise, and you will be with like minded people. You can ride some of the routes from Le Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia all within a week if the itinerary fits without having to take flights, arrange accommodation and then the task of getting there. There is also a lot to do once on board, along with the on board entertainment, use of the pool, fully equipped gyms with the latest technology, or the Spa for that post ride massage or have a sit in the Sauna or Steam room.
The stateroom accommodation is very different to the cycling hotels and guest houses many of us have stayed in on past cycling holidays. Most cruise lines offer complimentary Room Service if you don’t want to leave you cabin. Then there is the food element, with many choices of Restaurants on board, you most certainly won’t be dreading the next meal, and the chefs will take into consideration many dietary needs.
Although you might be getting some early nights in if you have an early start the next day, all of the entertainment is free. There are bars and specialty restaurants to enjoy.
And finally if you have a non cycling partner, they can come too. Whilst you ride they can enjoy the cruise.
With over 300 Cruise ships and Ocean Liners sailing the World, everyone with different standards, itineraries, activities, sizes, from the 5,000+ passenger resort ships through to the small Boutique Ultra Luxury Yachts only carrying a maximum of 120 guests in opulent luxury, or all of the 4 and 5 Star rated ships, and what they offer. Then we have the 6 Star Ultra Luxury ships were nearly everything is included in the price. We know that it can be a daunting task finding the right ship without expert advice. We are qualified Cruise Consultants, we have studied to reach the highest standard of knowledge with CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) and we regularly attend ship visits.
